Barwell's dream start ensured the Westerby Cup went
to Kirkby Road for the first time following a 2-0 win over Quorn at the Walkers
Stadium last night. The Canaries caught Quorn cold with two goals inside the
first three minutes. Both goals came from set-pieces with Barwell's tigerish midfielder
Craig Dutton opening the scoring with the game barely a minute old. A free-kick
from former Leicester City youngster Adam Wykes was only partially cleared and
Dutton conjured something out of nothing with a curling shot from the edge of
the penalty area. It was 2-0 after two-and-a-half minutes when Francino Francis
guided a header past Quorn goalkeeper Craig Jones from another delivery. Barwell
striker Adam Cunnington hit the bar with a free-kick after 28 minutes as Quorn
struggled to stay in contention. But the Unibond side finished the first half
brightly and Paul White's header was palmed on to the bar by Barwell goalkeeper
Liam Castle.
